Clans
Player-founded fellowships with their own ranks, permissions, private channel, insignia and hall.
A clan is a fellowship raised by players rather than granted by the game. It has its own colours, its own ladder of ranks, a private channel, an insignia every member carries, and in time a hall of its own. Any player may found one, and the founder owns it outright: the ranks, the permissions and the clan's fate are theirs to set.
Founding a Clan#
clancreate <clan name> begins the process. You are walked through choosing a
primary and a secondary clan colour, five rank names beginning with the leader
rank, and a short name of no more than ten characters, which is used as the clan's
channel prefix. When it is done you are the clan's founder and hold Rank 1, the
highest of its ten ranks.
A character may belong to only one clan at a time.
The Rank Ladder#
Every clan has ten rank slots, with Rank 1 the highest and Rank 10 the lowest.
Ranks are named sparsely: the founder names only the ranks the clan actually uses,
with clanmanage rankname <rank> <name>, and members only ever hold named ranks.
Rank 1 must always carry a name, and a rank that still holds members cannot be
unnamed. Naming a rank none clears it.
New members are initiated at the lowest named rank. cpromote <player> moves a
member one named rank toward Rank 1 and cdemote <player> moves them one named
rank away from it. Promotion never raises anyone to your own rank or above, and
only the founder may raise someone into Rank 1 itself. Demotion reaches only
members below your own rank.
clanranks, or its alias cranks, lists the whole membership organised by rank.
clan on its own shows which members are currently online.
The Founder#
The founder owns the clan. Only the founder may name ranks, grant and revoke
permissions, set the clan's fields, spend ability points, raise the clan abode,
and hand the clan on to a successor with clanmanage transfer <member>. The
fields available to clanmanage set <field> <value> are appearance, region,
disposition and type.
A founder cannot resign while they still own the clan. The clan must pass to a successor first.
Permissions#
Each rank carries a set of permissions that the founder grants with
clanmanage grant <rank> <permission> and takes away with
clanmanage revoke <rank> <permission>. There are twelve.

Rank 1 holds every permission. Every other rank begins with hear, speak, insignia,
abode and herald, and holds nothing else until the founder grants it.
clanmanage permissions shows what your own rank holds, and
clanmanage permissions <rank> shows any rank from 1 to 10.
Joining, Leaving and Exile#
cinvite <player> offers an invitation, and clanmanage initiate <player> does
the same thing. Both require the initiate permission. The invitation lasts thirty
seconds by default and can be set anywhere from five seconds to two minutes, and
it breaks if either of you moves before it is answered. The player accepts with
caccept.
cresign explains what resignation costs and cresign confirm carries it out.
Resigning surrenders your insignia and your place among the ranks.
clanmanage resign confirm works the same way.
cexile <player> removes a member from the ranks entirely. It requires the exile
permission and reaches only members below your own rank, and the founder can never
be exiled. An exile surrenders the insignia and cannot be initiated again until
someone with the exile permission lifts the ban with cpardon <player>. The exile
does not need to be online to be pardoned.
Censure#
Censure silences a member on the clan channel without removing them from the clan.
clanmanage censure <member> applies it and clanmanage uncensure <member> lifts
it. It requires the censure permission, reaches only members below your own rank,
and cannot be turned on the founder or on yourself.
The Clan Insignia#
Every member is granted the clan insignia when they join. It cannot be dropped, given away or lost in death, and it is taken back only when its bearer is exiled or resigns. Membership is reconciled each time you log in, so a clan you joined, left or were exiled from while offline is reflected in what you carry.
The Clan Channel#
clan <message> speaks on the clan's private channel, in the clan's own colours.
Speaking requires the speak permission, and a censured member is silent on the
channel until the censure is lifted. clan on its own shows the online roster.
Herald Announcements#
A member with the herald permission may set a line that announces them to the clan
as they come and go. clanmanage herald login <message> and
clanmanage herald logout <message> set them, and leaving the message off clears
one. Herald lines are plain text of at most 150 characters and are shown in the
clan's colours.
The Clan Abode#
The founder raises the clan's hall with clanmanage foundabode, standing at the
place where the clan is to make its home. That room gains a clan exit leading into
the abode's gathering hall, where a notice board hangs for clan business, and the
way out of the hall returns to the world. An abode cannot be anchored inside
another dwelling, and a clan may have only one.
Members holding abode access travel there from anywhere with abode. The call
will not reach you in combat, nor from places that forbid such travel.
Members holding the decorate permission shape the hall from within with
clandecorate. Standing in a room, you can rename it with
clandecorate short <text>, describe it with clandecorate long, open a passage
with clandecorate exit <direction> <room>, seal one with
clandecorate remove exit <direction>, list the halls with
clandecorate room list and tear one down with clandecorate room remove <room>.
Room names run to 45 characters, descriptions to 2000, and the line by line
description collector finishes on a full stop alone on a line and cancels on ~q.
Naming a room that does not exist yet raises a fresh hall in that direction with a
passage leading back. The entry hall and its way out can never be removed.
An abode holds up to ten rooms. See Housing for the homes an individual character can own.
Levels and Abilities#
Clans grow through the deeds of their members. clanlevel shows the clan's level,
your own personal honour, the experience needed for the next level, the clan's
respect as a percentage of the way there, the abilities it knows, and the ability
points and respecs it has available.
A clan advances to a maximum of level 20, and each level earns one ability point
for the founder to spend. clanabilities lists what the clan knows and what it can
still learn, along with the cost of each, and clanabilities learn <ability> spends
the points. Only the founder may spend them.
Every clan begins knowing four things: its roster and channel, its management, its abode, and the clan herald. Beyond those, expanded abode costs one point and doubles the abode's capacity from ten rooms to twenty.
Standing Among the Clans#
clans shows how the Five Realms rank the clans, measured by the coin each has
gathered into its coffers. The wealthiest clan is named in the headline and the
rest are listed beneath it. A clan with nothing in its treasury holds no standing
and does not appear at all.
