The Temples
Where each of the five gods keeps a house, how to get in and out, and what each god asks of those who come.
Each of the five gods keeps a house in or near Aurin, and any player may walk into any of them, whatever god they serve or do not serve. Every temple has a sanctuary with a priest, a place to rest, a sacristy for the faithful and a rite of its own, because each god wants something different.
Finding Them#
The compass rose on Loralei's Walk points the way to all five, and compass set <god>
aims your compass at any of them.
| God | House | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Loralei | The Temple of the Radiant Heart | North along Loralei's Walk |
| Kranos | The Spearhold | West off Sunward Avenue, by the Southern Gate |
| Thalos | The Wrack | South off Pearlward Promenade, by the Eastern Gate |
| Sivaine | The House of the Black Feather | East off Thorngate Alley |
| Morbis | The House of Names | West of the gate of Aurin Cemetery |
The House of Names stands just inside the cemetery gate, where nothing rises, so a player of any level can reach it without walking among the graves.
Going In and Out#
From the street, go in by the direction the temple lies in, or type temple. Inside,
out takes you back to the street. Nothing spawns in a temple and no fight can start
in one, the proving floor at the Spearhold excepted.
In Every Temple#
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
pray |
In the sanctuary, hear what this god asks of you. |
ask <priest> about <topic> |
Learn about the god. The sign names the priest. |
ask <priest> about joining |
Be offered a place in that faith. |
tithe <amount> to <god> |
Lay an offering of copper. |
rest |
Mend half again as fast in the temple's place to rest. |
The sacristy is a shared store, like a guild's armory, and holds thirty things. Only those who serve that god may enter it. See Religion for how to join a faith. Clerics and paladins may hold marriages in any of the five sanctuaries.
What the Gods Ask#
Anyone may ask any god. A blessing lasts an hour, or two hours if you serve that god. A soul carries one blessing at a time, and a new one takes the place of the old.
| God | Rite | Blessing | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Loralei | feast, at the Pilgrims' Table |
Open Hands | 10% more coin from kills and 5% off in shops |
| Kranos | prove, on the proving floor |
Proven | 5% more damage with weapons and skills |
| Sivaine | suffer, at the Edge |
Scarbound | 5% less from every blow, and 10% more to whatever killed you last |
| Thalos | wash, in the rain basin |
Unbound | Breathe under water, and one stun, root or knockdown in four slides off you |
| Morbis | rites, at the bier |
Spiral Key | The next blow that would kill you lays you on the bier alive instead, and the key is spent |
Loralei asks no sacrifice. Sit down at the table and eat, and if anyone else is in the room, everyone there gets Lifted Spirits as well.
Kranos takes proof. The Iron Proctor stands up at your own level. If it beats you, you are carried to the barracks alive and may try again.
Sivaine asks you to close your hand on a blade. It takes a third of your health, and she will not take it from anyone with less than half left.
Thalos asks for nothing. The rain basin takes poison, sickness and rot off you, and every scent you have picked up.
Morbis asks that nothing be forgotten. Bring any creature's body to the bier, in your
pack or in your arms. A player's body is not accepted. In the same house, read book
at the Black Book shows you every death you have died.
